When to Replace Your Garage Door

Garage doors experience a lot of wear and tear throughout their life. Constantly opening and closing, pests, rain, wind, objects hitting it, and the sun’s U.V. rays all take their toll on the door. The time when it is necessary to replace your garage door depends on a variety of factors such as the type of door, how often maintenance is performed, and your local climate. There are some telltale signs that indicate you are in need of a new door. These signs include:

• Energy Bills Increasing: Your door provides a level of insulation for your home. Over time, it will lose its effectiveness which will lead to a rise in your energy bills. If your bills have skyrocketed recently, your garage door may be responsible for it. That means you should consider replacing it.

• Difficulty Opening/Closing: Your garage door should open and close with not much effort, especially if you have a garage door opener. If your wheel track has rusted, bent, or become clogged with debris, this can make it difficult for the door to move in either direction. It may also be a misaligned sensor causing the issue. Sometimes it can be rectified with a simple repair while other times you will need to install a new door.

• Damage to Moving Parts: Moving parts of the door should always remain clean and lubricated for the safe and smooth operation of the door. If parts are broken, dirty, or rusted, then the parts need to be replaced, if possible. If parts cannot be fixed, you will need to have a replacement garage door installed.
